PRODUCTION LOG

June (Year 10)
In June my group and myself had decided on our final idea that we where going to put into a treatment, we had contemplated between a music video or a film intro, we decided to go for the film intro and our genre was going to be thriller. We found ourselves being really ahead and we had a lot of time to discuss and contribute ideas to our treatment,it was then that we formed new and exciting ideas by blending our ideas together, we wrote down loads of notes for the start of year 11.

Tuesday 15 September
In todays lesson I studied the way that the Nils Abden Opliv director of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo'framed various shots, for example the opening of the film had an extreme close-up of a man's hands opening a parcel made of paper at a side view

the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' poster

Tuesday the 22nd of September
In today's lesson we watched two very different film openings, one being 'Knight and Day' and the other being 'Don't look now' We watched these to get inspiration for our own introduction for our film. The opening to both of the films gave us very different views and ideas on what to do for our own introduction and we took some ideas forward and are going to use them.

'Knight and Day'

 'Dont look now'

Thursday 29 September
In today's lesson my group and I worked on our story board. We did this on sticky notes to make it easier for ourselves, it made it very easy to be able to move our ideas around and to change things if it was needed. We wrote out every camera angle that we would shoot in on the top of each sticky notes. We got most of our ideas from out treatment, we unfortunately didn't finish our story board in the lesson so we need to carry it on next lesson. Tuesday 4th October

Thursday 8th September (Year 11)

In todays lesson we officially started planning on Adobe, we went through youtube and tried to find the twisted ident. Once we found the one we wanted to use we had to play around with how long we wanted it and put it into Adobe.

Today I created a blog that I will be using to record all my information, planning and research online.  I am linked to my class blog and my friends blogs. It will be very useful to be able to link up to the rest of my group even when I'm not in class, this is because I will be able to see what they have planned online.
My teacher will be checking my blog several times a week
I plan to add a link to my twitter page as well, I attempted to do this but the gadget was broken.

Thursday the 6th October
In today's lesson we took time to edit and change our blogs.

Monday 10th October
In today's lesson my group and finished off our story board, we used our treatment to help us with ideas, by putting the story board on sticky notes it made it so much easier for us to add ideas and to change or take out drawings. We wrote out all the camera angle that we will use in our movie opening. We discussed what props each character will use and where a bouts we would film each scene. During break we went and asked each character we would like to be featured in our opening and they all said yes.

Tuesday 11th October
Today my group and I researched indent's. We came up with the decision that we where going to use the Ident thats used in all the Saw movies. We researched into a various amount of different companies and looked at co productions. We are going to make our own ident on Adobe after effects

This is a screen shot of our research into production company idents

Thursday 13th October
We decided that the man who was going to play the dad in our film opening would be our drama teacher Mr Kimber, this is because we can give him a very versatile role which he will be very capable of playing, he can also do a very good polish accent. He will be wearing a science lab coat and a doctor hat to show that he is a surgeon. He is middle aged and has dark hair.

Monday 17th October

Tuesday the 18th October

In today's lesson we talked about the art of the title, In my group we looked at three film introductions and analyzed how they introduced their titles to help us get ideas for our very own title and where abouts in the scene we should introduce it.
The first film we looked at was called Buried
The title is show in this particular film in the third box. The film opening in this film doesn't particularly reveal anything in the film so it gives it a very eary atmosphere.
The font goes in very well with the theme of colours which is constant throughout the film introduction, the yellow stands out very well against the black and the transitions throughout introduction are very smooth.

Buried is a 2010 Spanish thriller film directed by Rodrigo Cortés. It stars Ryan Reynolds, and was written by Chris Sparling. The film revolves around Iraq-based American truck driver Paul Conroy (Reynolds), who, after being attacked, finds himself buried alive in a wooden coffin, with only a lighter, flask, flashlight, knife, glowsticks, pencil and a mobile phone to help him escape before the oxygen in the coffin runs out. Since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the film has received a positive critical reception.

The second film we looked at from the art of the title website was called The Pacific. The scene has many extreme close up shots to capture the audiences attention.  http://www.artofthetitle.com/2010/06/14/the-pacific/#more-5539
The Pacific is a 2010 television series produced by HBO, Seven Network Australia, Sky Movies, Playtone and DreamWorks that premiered in the United States on March 14, 2010.
The colours used in the introduction are very dark dreary colours such as greys and blacks especially red, this is used because the film is all about the time or war and the colours represent the feeling of the soldiers. The colour red also represents the scene of death which you can tell is constant throughout the film. The introduction uses a variety of sketches because soldiers sketched to present their feelings, some of the sketches actually even turned into real people which I thought was quite clever. In this film introduction the title is shown in the first scene, it is shown very small to add detail to what is happening in the background where the charcoal is writing on the paper.
The third film opening we looked at was Dexter
The film opening has loads of extreme close ups which keep the audience gripped, the title is shown and blood drippes besides it, its very clever how they made the same scene later but the blood is ketchup coming out of a sandwich. Dexter is a showtime television series, so the title is in the first block compared to a film where they title is normally showed later. The font of the title is very distinctive, and stands out really well against the parchment paper. Dexter is an American television drama series.
This was our interpritation of the Art of the titles titles but this was for own own film
20th October 2011
In todays lesson after looking at a variety of differnet art of the titles, we decided to try and think of a name for out own film. OUr film is in the genre thriller/horror, so we wanted a film that was to do with the genre. We also wanted the title to tie in with what our film was about. We tried to get inspiration for our surroundings, we came up with the idea Unorthorised which all members of our group took a liking to, we later added 16 onto the end becasue the main girl is 16. We ended up with the title Unorthorised 16.
This is what we got our inspiration of our title from. We then made this on premier
pro adn it ended up like this

Monday 14th November15th Novemeber 2011
Today we shot our scene three at school. We used a teacher as our male character and our school friend Abi as Gemma our main girl.
We used a room next to our art room called the kiln room which was messy and looked the part. Our props were: a big studio light for extra lighting, a science lab coat, a scalpole with out the blade in it and a table for the girl to be 'operated on'
We directed the man to look straight into the camera when delivering his line 'Well done son. Shes perfect' so our audience feel like they are in the movie and it seems a lot more real for them.
In todays lesson and before this we have been filming our film intrduction. We have been filming scene 3 which we thought was the hardest scene to film, after filming this and getting all the actors together we got enough fottage to start editing. We used Adobe Premire pro to overlap the same clip to make the clip look very illusional and distorted.
This is a picture of the overlap of the main girl used in our film introduction

We edited all our filming in imovie where we cut down our clips to the key things that we had filmed. This was where we adjusted the lighting and the length to make it fit in our film opening.

November 15- December 1st
In the lessons between these dates i have been filming and editing our scene 3 which is our longest scene. This scene is also are hardest scene as it contains loads of use on Adobe premier, we hadn't used Adobe premier before so it was a very hard thing to try and get used to quickly. After a few trials we soon realised how we where able to overlap which is what we did above and how we where able to overlap a video of a girl and a computer screen on the same ssequence. This took a lot of work but we where able to do it. Our scene 3 contains a variety of flashbacks which are used and the girl tries to remember where she is, these where relativly easy to film as they where random things she either sees or remembers.

We spent a lot of time editing the scene together and made sure we used a variety of different camera angles to add suspense, this is because the scene is very suspense filled and is meant to keep the audience very on edge. Whilst editing we added a variety of transaction enabling what we had filmed to run smoothly and not be very jerky, we didn't remove all the jerkiness though because we felt that is added to the suspense.

We also made our own ident on Premier Pro called Callis, we made it so that the title spins very tightly then un spins, this will be played after the twisted productions is showed which has been featured in films such as saw.

Friday 2nd December
Today we filmed scenes 3 and 2, this was relativley easy as our scenes consisted of a party and a short kidnapping scene. We short from a variety of different camera angles one of them being from the girls point of view.

Monday 5th December
In today's lesson we started editing our scenes 3 and 2 as we haev to try and make the deadline. We where able to cut out a lot of what we had filmed as  it wasn't really relevant to what we needed. We also had a look at how to make our powerpoint which consisted of main parts of our blog.

Tuesday 6th December
IN todays lesson we decided to creat a load of diffenert sounds overlapping our ident that we made. We decided that it looked like it had a type of carnival look to the ident so we added children laughing in the background and also a sound that connected the ident very well with the first scene

We overlapped a load of effects to get a really good sound
8th December Thursday
In todays lesson we made sure that people understood that our film starts with the ending,we did this by adding times just incase people didnt understand the whisper that is meant to tell them.

12th January Thusday
In today's lesson we put our film introduction onto facebook and youtube to get some constructive advise on how we could improve our work. We were able to get very good comments, and loads of people liked it Will over 60 likes on facebook and over 500 views on youtube. We felt this was a huge accomplishment and were all very proud.

Monday 16th January
Today we got come very useful feedback saying that our film very hard to understand in some plaes, we were able to correct this my using audacity and record over the other voices in the film

A section of our voice recorder
Tuesday 17th January
In today's lesson we practised with after effects because we wanted to try and be as creative as we could. On one of our scenes we tried to make it look like she was being cut, we were going to include this in our film, but the filming was very straight so the line didn't end up looking straight.
We decided to not use this as the line wasn't very straight due to the hand moving around
